From New Zealand to Japan 🇳🇿🇯🇵

 

15 years later… I never imagined we’d meet again like this, here in Japan.

 

He was just 5 years old back then, coming almost every week to the football school I started in Auckland. Now he’s 20, and through a connection, he’s playing for a team in the Tokai League.

Having grown up in New Zealand, he’s finding Japanese a bit challenging but I know that experience will become a huge strength for his future.

 

Thank you for making the trip all the way from Gifu to see me. The timing didn’t work out for you to visit EFA this time, but next time for sure.

 

Climbing up from the regional leagues is never easy, but I hope you keep pushing until you’re truly satisfied. Keep going, and good luck! 💪⚽

あれから15年。まさか15年後に日本で再会できるとは。

 

彼は当時5歳。私がニュージーランドのオークランドでサッカースクールを立ち上げた時、ほぼ毎週参加してくれていたのを覚えています。もう20歳になり、今は知人の紹介もあり東海リーグのチームでプレーしています。

ニュージーランドで生まれ育ったので日本語には苦労しているようですが、それも将来の確かな経験になるでしょう。岐阜からわざわざ会いに来てくれて本当にありがとう。今回はタイミングが合わずEFAには来れなかったですが、またいつか必ず。

 

地域リーグから這い上がるのは並大抵のことではありませんが、納得するまでチャレンジし続けて欲しいです。
